ITINERARY BOOK

This journey has been personally designed by Kim Nou has been in the travel business for over 25 years, is in love with his country and passionate about sharing his deep knowledge of Khmer culture and unique places with guests and give them memorable experience to bring back home.

All our itineraries have generally been constructed on the basis of the rooms that have the most charm or best view, and not necessarily the first prices, nor the most expensive suites.
We can of course adjust according to your request.

Highlights of the Journey:

  • Mondulkiri nature and wildlife
  • Elephant Valley
  • Banong hill tribes

Mondulkiri is a remote (and the largest) province of Cambodia, along the border of Vietnam - sparsely populated and covered with thickly forested mountains, gigantic waterfalls , farms, plantations with red and fertile ground and lush green hills. Sen Monorom is the provincial capital, surrounded by deep jungle, with a huge variety of flora and fauna, with barely 8,000 inhabitants, the town can be compared to some American Wild West frontier towns. Tourism is still undeveloped, with only a few eco-tourism projects, Elephant Valley is one of them, a sanctuary for retired elephants. Mondulkiri Protected Forest (MPF) has been designated by WWF as one of the world’s most biologically important Eco-regions. Forest and hills are inhabited by local hill tribes and the local population is a mix of Khmer, hill tribe, Vietnamese and Lao, they live off the land, planting rice, fruit trees, vegetables, coffee, strawberries, rubber and cashew nuts. This journey is an experience in one of the most remote and untouched deep jungle of South East Asian.

Day 1 : Phnom Penh – Mondulkiri (-/-/-)
Meeting at your hotel in Phnom Penh at 7.30am by your driver and guide and departure by car for a long trip to Mondulkiri. The road to Mondulkiri climbs gradually through some of Cambodia's most beautiful countryside and highland. The province is known for its high waterfalls, river gorges, pristine jungle, pretty fruit and vegetable orchards, coffee plantations, and refreshing microclimate, which is a pleasant change from Cambodia's hotter areas. Mondulkiri was once home to a diverse range of wildlife, including leopards, tigers, elephants and even rhinoceros in these more remote areas. The province is also home to Phnong, Banong and other minority tribes, many of whom have maintained the same way of life for centuries in the region's forests and hills On the road, we stop for some highland tour and a walk to Phnom Dos Krormom (Lady Breast), - the mountaintop overlooks the beautiful landscape of the provincial town of Mondul Kiri and majestic natural mountainous forest. We watch the sunset at Samut Chheu, (meaning the sea of forest), behind a sea of trees. You will check in at the resort for 3 nights. No arrangement for lunch and dinner.
HOTEL: Mayura Hill Resort (Deluxe Room) or Hill Top Resort (Bungalow)
Day 2 : Sen Monorom – Elephant Valley (B/L/-)
After breakfast, we go to Sen Monorom to meet with a member of the Elephant Valley Project team, some other guests may join and we drive into the picturesque surrounding countryside. Elephant Valley is a sanctuary, founded and run by an Englishman called Jack, with a total area of 1,600 hectares; enough space for about 20 elephants, who are safe and retired and allow a sustainable income for local mahouts. The goal of this project is to protect wildlife, especially elephants. No riding on the elephant, you will walk to accompany them in the nature, the elephants in their natural forest habitat. Morning trek up to base camp and enjoy a seasonal local-style lunch with spectacular views over the valley. In the afternoon, we visit another elephant’s family and explore the area On the way back to Sen Monorom, we stop and visit a local market and return to the resort. No arrangement for dinner.
HOTEL: Mayura Hill Resort (Deluxe Room) or Hill Top Resort (Bungalow)
Day 3 : Sen Monorom (B/L/-)

You will trek for around 8Kms in the morning trough the Banong villages, the virgin nature with dry and wetlands, habitats and farms. We reach a hidden waterfall and we set up a picnic for lunch and relax. Quick nap and we continue to explore the forest, walk for 5km back to the vehicle. Drive back to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to rest. No arrangement for lunch and dinner.
