Residence Bassac Boutique Hotel is a beautifully restored traditional shophouse residence with 14 rooms and suites set within mature tropical gardens and on the banks of the Mekong river. Full of charm and character the atmosphere is at once homely and convivial, warm and welcoming. The dream of a French-Laos couple, Residence Bassac is the sister property to Muang La Lodge, a wonderful boutique hotel off the beaten path in the mountains of northern Laos above Luang Prabang – pair these two properties, Residence Bassac and Muang La Lodge, to enjoy a really authentic experience of northern and southern Laos while also supporting these off the beaten path communities too.
Residence Bassac may well be set within a traditional building and exemplify all the qualities of traditional Laos hospitality and charm, but it also provides all the services one would expect from a quality boutique hotel. The French-Laos owners have put together a particularly good restaurant offering a delicious mix of traditional Laotian cuisine and French and Mediterranean inspired dining choices too. Dining is supported by a full bar and wine list too of course. Hotel services also include complimentary WIFI throughout the hotel, concierge services and tour desk, the rooms are set with big comfortable beds and designer colonial-contemporary furniture, smart TVs, air-conditioning and private en-suite bathrooms.

Mr Jean-Paul Duvergé
Your Host and The Team
“A native of France Jean-Paul is both a professional travel agent and a hotelier. With his Laotian partner (and wife) he has developed both the Muang La Lodge in northern Laos, and Residence Bassac in southern Laos. Passionate about Asia, passionate about sharing unique, honest travel experiences with his guests, Jean-Paul and his team strive to give back as much if not more than they take from each destination they work in. Connecting closely with local communities, ensuring their businesses employ the key sustainable principles to not impact environmentally on the beautiful places where they are based, and always looking to support local grass-roots businesses. Protecting the culture, traditions and communities is of paramount importance to Jean-Paul and his team at Residence Bassac and Muang La Lodge.
Champasak is perfectly located close to Wat Phou temple (a pre-Angkorian period Khmer temple, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001). Champasak is the ideal starting point for visiting all the sights and places of interest in southern Laos including the Plain of Jars, the Mekong Archipelago 4000 islands, waterfalls including South East Asia’s largest waterfall the Khone Phapheng Falls. All these sites are nearby to Residence Bassac. Champasak is also ideally placed as an entry point to Laos (Thailand via Ubon Ratchatani, and Cambodia) or an exit point for overland and river travel. Champasak is currently off the beaten path of mass tourism and retains its beautiful charm and slow-life feel as a result. But we feel it will become one of the three must-see sites in Laos in the coming years. So come and visit us soon before mass tourism discovers us!”
